Q&A

Our Mission

We are ordinary teens with problems and a simple desire for something more in our lives. We want to share with you our thoughts, concerns, and shortcomings.

Through such interaction with you, we plan to develop our faith and help in the development of the faith for those around us.

Saving Grace

by Fr. Bob Pflumm Associate Pastor of St. Ann parish Prairie Village Kansas

Q: What is Grace?

A:   There are two kinds of "grace":actual and sanctifying. Actual grace is that prompting that God gives to each of  us to help us always choose what is good. It accompanies every choice we make. We can reject it or cooperate with it. When we reject it, we usually sin.
The grace you are probably asking about is SANCTIFYING GRACE. This is the grace given to us at baptism and remains in us throughout our life when we are without serious sin.

It is "the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit living within us, in our souls". God actually comes and dwells within us. It is called the Indwelling of the Trinity. As long as we are without serious sin, God lives in us. That "Presence" can be enhanced and even increased by the reception of the Sacraments, prayer, and good works. His Presence raises us beyond our human level of living and enables us, through that presence or Indwelling, to actually share in God's life. We actually share in what makes God, God. That is why we are called God's children, and we can call Him Father.

If that Grace is lost by mortal sin, we can restore it by asking forgiveness and being reconciled back to God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Grace is quite a gift. It enables us to always live in God's Presence, knowing He is always close to us, loving us, and guiding us. It is a special gift to be sure...one that should always be treasured and guarded by living a good life.
